July 12, 2024Canada PR Points: Canada Point System
The Canada Point System is an essential tool
used by the Canadian government to calculate the eligibility scores of skilled
foreign professionals who wish to live and work in Canada. Over the years,
Canada has been committed to inviting skilled immigrants worldwide to meet its
social and economic needs. Known for its generous immigration policies and
broad systems, the 'Canada Point System' has become particularly popular among
aspirants. This system, utilized by the Federal Express Entry Immigration System,
ranks candidates' profiles based on the information provided at the time of
profile creation.
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) uses
various parameters to rank a candidate in the Express Entry and determine their
eligibility for Canadian immigration. Candidates are ranked based on several
factors, such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and
adaptability. Applicants must obtain 67 points out of 100 on the selection grid
to qualify as skilled workers.
Factors
Evaluated in the Canada PR Point Calculator:
1. Age: Candidates between the ages of
18-35 receive the maximum points. As age increases, the points awarded decrease
gradually.
2. Education: A maximum of 25 points is
awarded to candidates with a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. An Educational
Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an authorized agency must be included
while applying.
3. Work Experience: Points are awarded
based on the number of years spent performing a full-time job in an approved
occupation. A maximum of 15 points can be earned with four or more years of
experience in skill type 0, or skill levels A or B under the National
Occupation Classification (NOC).
4. Language Proficiency: Candidates must
take an approved language test before applying for a permanent resident visa. A
maximum of 28 points is awarded to those who establish fluency in English or
French. A minimum level of CLB 7 or NCLC 7 in all four language areas is
required.
5. Adaptability: Candidates can claim
additional points if their spouse or common-law partner has considerable work
experience or education in Canada. A maximum of 10 points is awarded for this
factor. Spouse’s work experience, education-related documents, and IELTS test
results must be included in the application.
6. Job Offer or Arranged Employment: A
maximum of 10 points can be awarded if the candidate secures a job offer from a
Canadian employer before applying for the Canada Federal Skilled Worker
program.
Improving CRS Scores
If you are concerned about your low CRS scores,
there are several ways to increase your points and boost your chances of
selection in the Express Entry Pool:
1. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):
Each Canadian province runs its own PNP to attract skilled workers who may not
score highly in Express Entry. Receiving a nomination from any Canadian
province or territory can add 600 additional points to your CRS score.
2. Job Offer: While a job offer is not
mandatory for immigration under the Express Entry system, having one can
guarantee 50-200 additional CRS points.
3. IELTS Score: Candidates can improve
their IELTS results by reappearing for the exam. Enhancing marks in any of the
four abilities (reading, speaking, writing, and listening) can significantly
boost CRS scores. Candidates with French language skills can also re-take the
exam to claim an additional 24 points.
4. Siblings in Canada: Candidates with
siblings in Canada can receive an additional 15 points. This was announced by
IRCC on June 6, 2017, along with extra points for strong French-speaking
skills.
5. Education: Prospective applicants
should get their educational credentials assessed by World Education Services
(WES) to ensure their degrees or diplomas are recognized in Canada. This can
provide extra CRS points for education obtained outside of Canada. Additionally,
pursuing skill enhancement courses or programs can enhance scores.
